Day 1

Xinjiang Regional Museum


How to Get There


Located in Urumqi city. Accessible by taxi or bus lines 7, 52, or 63.


What to Do


Explore exhibits showcasing Silk Road artifacts, ancient mummies, and the ethnic cultures of Xinjiang, including Uyghur, Kazakh, and Mongolian traditions.

Free entry. Bring a valid ID (passport for foreigners) for registration.


Tips


Visit early to avoid crowds. Allocate 2–3 hours to explore. Photography is allowed in most areas but avoid using flash.


Zhongshan Park (Hongshan Park)


How to Get There


Located in central Urumqi. Easily accessible by taxi or bus lines 1, 16, or 63.


What to Do


• Stroll through scenic paths surrounded by trees and flowers.

• Climb Hongshan (Red Hill) for panoramic views of the city.

• Visit the Buddhist pagoda on the hilltop.

Tips

Day 2

Heavenly Lake (Tianchi)


How to Get There


About 110 km from Urumqi. Buses and tours are available from Urumqi. A taxi or private car takes about 2 hours.


What to Do


• Enjoy a boat ride on the alpine lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

• Hike around the lake area and explore the scenic spots.

• Visit local Kazakh yurts for tea and cultural experiences.


Tickets


• Entrance: ¥100.

• Shuttle bus: ¥60.

• Optional boat ride: ¥80–100.


Tips


Bring warm clothing as temperatures can drop, even in summer. Allocate 5–6 hours, including travel.

Day 3

Id Kah Mosque


How to Get There


Located in Kashgar’s city center. Accessible by foot, taxi, or local bus.


What to Do


• Marvel at the stunning Islamic architecture and intricate wood carvings.

• Observe prayer sessions (non-Muslims can enter when services are not in progress).


Tickets


¥20 per person.


Tips


Dress modestly (covered shoulders and knees). Women should bring a scarf for their heads. Best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.


Kashgar Old Town


How to Get There


Walkable from Id Kah Mosque. Taxis and buses are also available.


What to Do


• Wander through ancient streets lined with shops selling Uyghur crafts, textiles, and food.

• Visit local artisan workshops to see traditional crafts being made.

• Enjoy traditional Uyghur dishes in street-side cafes.

Entry is free. Some workshops may charge for demonstrations.


Tips


Early morning visits offer a quieter experience, while evenings are lively with markets and local activities.

Day 4

Karakul Lake


How to Get There


Located 190 km from Kashgar, along the Karakoram Highway. Accessible by private car, taxi, or organized tour (approx. 4 hours one way).


What to Do


• Enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

• Meet local Kyrgyz herders and explore their yurts.

• Hike along the shoreline or ride horses near the lake.

Entrance fee: ¥50 per person.


Tips


Bring warm clothes, as the altitude makes temperatures colder. Stay hydrated to avoid altitude sickness. Allocate a full day for travel and exploration.

Day 5

Kashgar Sunday Bazaar


How to Get There


Located near the city center. Walkable from most hotels or accessible by taxi.


What to Do


• Explore the bustling livestock market, where farmers trade sheep, cows, and camels.

• Browse the general bazaar for textiles, spices, jewelry, and Uyghur handicrafts.

• Enjoy freshly made Uyghur street food.

Free entry.


Tips


Arrive early to see the livestock trading in full swing. Bargain respectfully when shopping. The bazaar is busiest on Sundays.
